Richard J Raven
Richard J Raven writes imaginative fiction and thoughtful faith‑based stories that invite readers to step inside the scene and “be there” as it unfolds.
About Me
Richard J Raven
Born in rural South Australia, Richard J Raven spent his early years roaming paddocks before moving with his family to suburban Melbourne. There he did all the usual suburban kid things, except perhaps for the secret cave he hacked out of blackberry bushes along the creek. A devoted reader, he discovered early that books painted richer, more vivid pictures in his imagination than any television screen. Only much later did technology begin to match those inner images. Drawing on this background, Richard writes in the hope that readers will see the same “mind pictures” that have always driven his stories.
My Books
Richard’s books invite readers to step into the story rather than simply observe it from a distance. From imaginative first‑hand accounts of biblical events in I Was There to faith‑coloured fiction and reflective tales shaped by an Australian childhood, his writing blends vivid scenes, spiritual questions and down‑to‑earth characters. Each book is crafted to stir the imagination, deepen faith and leave readers wondering how they themselves might respond if they were standing inside the moment.
I was There
First‑Hand Stories of Events in the Bible invites readers to step into Scripture through the eyes of someone who stood in the crowd, hauled the nets, poured the water and experienced the Miracles.
The Argument
The Argument explores the long‑running conversation between Evolution and Creation through a series of vivid, accessible viewpoints.
Under Arnhem
Beneath the baking heart of Australia, far below the red dust and endless sky, lies a hidden world: a network of vast, air‑filled caverns carved out around the Great Artesian Basin.
Testimonials
“I spent my life reading the Bible as ‘just stories’ until I picked up I Was There. Hearing the events through the eyes of people who ‘stood in the crowd’ when Jesus healed, taught and suffered made the Gospels feel startlingly real. The book didn’t replace Scripture, but it helped me picture it more vividly and stirred a fresh hunger to open my Bible again.”
“I Was There gave me a new way to share my faith with friends who struggle with the ancient language of traditional translations. These first‑person reflections helped them imagine what it might be like to stand on the shore when the storm calmed or sit at the table at the Last Supper. It opened gentle conversations about Jesus without feeling preachy.”
“As someone who has followed Jesus for decades, I didn’t expect a ‘creative retelling’ to move me so deeply. Yet each chapter of I Was There nudged me to consider, ‘Where would I have stood? What would I have believed?’ It became a devotional companion, prompting prayer and repentance as I walked through familiar stories from a surprisingly personal angle.”
